Community garden

Common Acre Project: A community garden website, built from one brief.

A community garden website that helps neighbors take part. Growing-season information, volunteer sessions, and produce collection hours are organized around practical questions, with visit details and a form for expressing interest.

The brief

The starting brief.

This brief guided the design and content. Compare its goals and details with the website and page previews below.

Purpose
Introduce a community garden, its produce table and practical volunteer opportunities.
Audience
Sacramento neighbors who want to volunteer, learn to grow or visit the produce table.
Tone
A community growing project in Sacramento. Practical, cheerful and grounded in the garden: seed trays, handwritten bed markers and produce crates. The useful facts are when to come, what to bring and how to take part.
Key facts
  • A neighborhood growing project in Sacramento, with communal beds and a seed-sharing table.
  • Volunteer mornings are Saturdays, 9 am to noon, from March through November. Beginners are welcome; tools and gloves are supplied. Bring water, a hat and closed-toe shoes.
  • A free seasonal produce table opens Wednesdays, 4 pm to 6 pm, from May through October, while produce is available.
  • Saturday tasks follow the season: preparing beds, sowing, weeding, watering and harvesting. Children attend with a responsible adult.
  • People request a volunteer date through the form. The coordinator replies with the meeting details and any weather-related change.
  • Seed sharing takes place during Saturday mornings. Visitors bring clearly labelled spare seeds or choose from what is available.
